If you’re a road warrior or an outdoor adventure athlete, you may want to consider the G’zOne Type-S from Verizon, manufactured by Casio. The G’zOne Type-S phone was designed and engineered per military specification (MIL-STD 810F) to handle shock, ruggedize, dust and water resistance. It’s definitely safe if you work in the construction area, doing water sports or just under any harsh conditions/environments that you may need a phone by you.
The G’zOne Type-S phone is definitely not an everyday slim, stylish and sexy phone like the iPhone or the Razr. It’s a bit more bulky as if you are comparing an Escalade SUV versus a sporty Porsche, Cayman. Despite the fashion comparison, the ergonomic design of the G’zOne Type-S was well thought out. It’s very comfortable to hold the phone, especially for those on the phone a lot. It fits into the palm just right, not too thick, not too thin. The phone measures 3.8″ (H) x 2.0″ (W) x 1.1″ (D) and weights about 5.1 ounces (of course with battery). It only comes with one color, navy blue, and for some people that can be unattractive and lack of variety. The clock feature in the front of the phone makes it easy to tell time with no need for flipping the phone open. The inside buttons are not flat as a lot of phones, they come off the surface with a profile to make it easy to roll the thumb over the number and misdialing can be eliminated.
Even though the phone is water resistance, there’s no spec for how deep the phone can go under water; therefore, I don’t suggest anyone to bring the phone along for scuba diving. On the other hand the phone should survive rain-like condition, so it’s totally safe if you need a phone with you during kayaking. For rock climbing, the handle across the top of the phone is great feature that can be used to hook the phone to the harness for easy access. The display screen is quite a decent size, 1.8″, with a resolution of 176×220 pixels makes the colors well-defined and easy to read.
The phone also equipped with CMOS camera and 15 seconds video clips with flash and 2x digital zoom. Three resolutions (640×480, 320×240, and 120×160) and various white balance settings are available also to choose from. The self-timing feature is also part of the package in case needed. Picture and video messaging are standard features as well.
With the new law applied to handsfree while driving, the G’zOne Type-S phone offers Bluetooth® capable for the following profiles: Headset (HSP), Handsfree (HFP), Serial Port (SPP) and Dial Up Networking (DUN). If you are on a business trip and driving in a different city, the VZ navigator can definitely ease your frustration of getting lost. The sound quality is fantastic. It’s very clear and even in the noisy environment. The speaker quality is very good as well. The battery is rated for 3.38 hours of talk time and 7 days for standby.
